Jul 01, 2012· Look at all rotors and if you see a clear deterioration in one you know it's that, but the pads need to be changed also. It will be nigh impossible to look on the inside of the rotor from under the car, at least without a light and mirror, and that's in my limited experience more likely to go bad than the outside of the rotor.
After an hour they looked at the brakes and told me the R.Rear Rotor was "bad", the R.Rear pad was worn down causing the grinding. I don't know much about brakes other than it seemed Way overpriced.

Now the bad one, it can squeal or grind, is when you've worn through your brake pad, and now you've got the steel that the pad is normally mounted on grinding on the rotor. If this happens at a minimum you need to immediately replace the pads, but you'll want to inspect the rotor.
What that usually means is that your pads have worn all the way through and they are grinding into the rotor itself. That is a much louder noise and a much more abrasive noise. Generally, at that point you are going to be into more money.
